Floatation therapy, or simply "Floating", is based on a scientific approach to deep relaxation called Restricted Environmental Stimulation Technique or R.E.S.T. for short. Floatation therapy is known to offer a plethora of benefits including stress and anxiety relief, relaxation, meditation, enhanced healing and recovery, pain management, creative exploration, introspection and mental conditioning. The floatation tank was originally invented by Dr. John Lilly in 1954 while working for the National Institute for Mental Health Our float tank contains 11” of water and 1100 pounds of pharmaceutical grade Epsom salts. This creates a very dense solution that allows the body to float effortlessly and minimizes the forces of gravity delivering a feeling of weightlessness. The water is heated and maintained to body temperature so you can’t tell where the body ends and the water begins.
Your Luna Float Visit (what to expect and how to prepare)
Before: For the best float experience it's suggested that you:
have a light meal before your float
use the washroom
avoid shaving or dying hair
arrive at least 15 minutes early
If you haven't already, fill our our Client intake Form and Waiver
We will ask you your shoe size and give you a pair of slip resistant spa sandals
We will ask you (again) if you need to use the washroom before hand
If it's your first time, we will give you a little tour
Your Room You will be provided:
towel, face cloth, shampoo, body wash, conditioner, a shower, silicone ear plugs, A&D ointment (for any cuts), pool noodle, head support if desired, robe on back of door in case you need to leave room
You will be instructed to:
undress privately, put in ear plugs, shower (not too warm so as to raise external body temperature), utilize ointment as required, dry hands and face, enter float tank, you do NOT wear a bathing suit, close door, lay back, relax, let go, just float, breathe, our float sessions are 90 minutes and you'll be surprised how fast that actually goes!
You will have access to a underwater LED light inside the tank by your head, while R.E.S.T. (Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy) is normally conducted in the dark, some people like to have the light on for a bit in the beginning and you are in control of your experience.
Floating is typically done in silence and then we notify you that your time is up by turning music on. However, some people like to listen to guided meditations or podcasts. If you have something on an Ipod or phone you want to listen to we do have an auxiliary jack to accommodate that.
Once finished, shower off all salt and get dressed
Use our Post-Float glow station (hair dryer, lotion, Q-tips, etc.)
Enjoy a glass of water or some tea in our Relaxation Station Lounge
Write in our Float Journal, read, or just chill
When you are ready to leave, you can make your way back up to our reception and book your next float therapy session!
